Surprising Mom.
Monday, November 1, 2010 at 10:56PM It has been an insane week! I left for Haiti on the 19th (which I will be blogging about soon!), had an incredible trip and then flew back into the states on the 24th.
October 24 was a VERY SPECIAL DAY! It was the day that our beautiful mama turned 50.
The girls and I had been racking our brains trying to figure out what to do for her that would be memorable and heartfelt, something she could look back on 30 years from now and smile about. Then the plan hit me!
Because Julia and I were both going to be gone on her actual birthday, she decided to fly home to Pennsylvania to be with her sister and mom and friends. So what do we do?
Julia flew back from California on the 23rd and she and Amber left at 3 am on the 24 (in my car) to make the 10 hour drive to Pittsburgh from Nashville. They surprised mom! Lots of smiles, tears, laughter, questions..All the while I was still on plane after plane getting back to the states from Haiti, waiting for my chance to jump in on the surprise!
So they have a party for mama with all her friends and family, spend a day in Pittsburgh, and just live it up! Mom is sad that I wasn’t able to be there..
but wait..
I sleep a day in Nashville, then jump on a flight at 6 am on the 26th to Pittsburgh to surprise mom and be there for the drive back to Nashville. It was awesome!
Julia and Amber blindfold mama and I see them pull up to the curb at the Pittsburgh airport. Julia helps mom (who is still blindfolded) out of the car while I proceed to grab her hand as she takes off her blindfold. She was SO confused at first and then realized I was there right beside her, and the tears flowed freely! It was a beautiful thing. She got her only birthday wish!
For all of us to be together.
We then proceeded to dodge a few tornadoes on the way back, and 13 hours later we made it safe and sound to Nashville! Hope you enjoyed it as much as we all did.
Basically, the girls and I are the best! ;) We pulled off a killer surprise because we love our mama more than words!
All that to say, HAPPY 50th MOM! We love you!
-Sarah
